Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy indicates surgery related to the Uterine cavity.

What happens during Hysteroscopy?

Diagnostic Hysteroscopy is an outpatient procedure which can be done either in the OPD(Office Hysteroscopy) or in the OT.

Operative Hysteroscopy is a major surgical procedure and involves usually general anaesthaesia. The distending media used are normal saline, carbon dioxide or glycine.

The various problems like Endometrial polyps or submucosal fibroids can be removed with hysteroscopic surgery.

Benefits of Endoscopic procedures are

Less invasive, does not require opening of the abdomen as in conventional surgery.
less post operative discomfort since the incisions are much smaller
quicker recovery times
shorter hospital stays
earlier return to full activities
much smaller scars
There may be less internal scarring when the procedures are performed in a minimally invasive fashion compared to standard open surgery.

Gynecological conditions requiring endoscopic surgery are:

Infertility
pelvic pain of uncertain cause
Ovarian cysts
Endometriosis
Pelvic adhesions
Ectopic pregnancy

Hystero Laparoscopy (Combined Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy) is very useful for women who are infertile or having difficulty in becoming pregnant.
