Intrauterine Insemination

Patients with Unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, woman with problems affecting cervical  mucus benefit from intrauterine insemination.

Controlled stimulation of the ovaries are done using Gonadotropin injections .once the follicles are mature, ovulation is induced with HCG. Ultrasound is used to monitor growth of eggs and ovulation.

After ovulation, the husband’s semen sample is prepared and best motile sperms are placed into the uterus using a sterile catheter.

It is an outpatient procedure and you can resume normal life after the procedure pregnancy tests are done 17 days after IUI. The success rates depends on the sperm count and patency of tubes. The average pregnancy rate per IUI is 10-15% per
cycle. Maximum of 6 cycles of IUI are done .If pregnancy does not happen  IVF is the next line of treatment.

Indications of IUI:

IUI is used in infertile couples demonstrating abnormal male or female factors or both.

Decreased sperm count and motility
Decreased Sperm Quality[hyperviscosity]
Disorders of Sperm Function
Hypospadias-Defect of Penis.
Retro grade ejaculation

Cervicitis(Inflammation of the cervix)
Ovulation disorders (PCOD)
Unexplained Infertility
